New year’s resolution in 2022
What are your new year’s resolutions in 2022? Exercise more? Learn a new skill or hobby? Quit smoking? Or maybe, besides that, have you considered increasing your green behaviour?
We are still facing problems due to human-induced climate change and to successfully tackle that, it will require all of us to make changes to our behaviour as consumers. However, having said this, a new survey by Ipsos on behalf of the World Economic Forum showed a decline in the number of changes people are making out of concern about climate change during the pandemic. In the survey, more than 23,000 people across 29 countries were asked if their consumer behaviour had changed specifically out of concern about climate change. The results suggest that COVID-19 upheaval has weakened concern about environmental impact and fewer consumers are practicing green behaviour during the pandemic (2021), compared to previous poll in January 2020.
However, hope is not lost! From those being actively green, recycling and composting were the most popular activities in the survey, with 46% of respondents saying they do these more often because of their concern about climate change. Saving energy at home came second in the list, followed by avoiding food waste and saving water at home. These are just some of the easier ways to stay or continue on your journey of living a bit greener. Little changes can go a long way and as the COVID situation continues to stay the same, at least we can all try to change small habits instead.
Let’s make 2022 a brighter path for our future and consider our green behaviour as a part of our new year’s resolution. We must want to improve it from year to year in order to tackle human-induced climate change.
Will you choose the greener path as we go into another year of uncertainty?
